In 2010, we began our pursuit of 1:1 technology through a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program. Our decision was guided by extensive research of successful programs from across the country. This revealed that 1:1 via BYOD strengthens school curriculum delivery and student engagement. We want to offer that opportunity to our students.
Our administration and faculty have been preparing for this transition by developing progressive instructional methods with greater emphasis on student-centered learning. Our faculty, especially, has created course and department Google Sites as hubs for curriculum planning, sharing, and interaction. Also, our technology team has increased the speed and quality of our connectivity in order to accommodate existing and future wireless device usage.
We are thrilled at how many students already regularly and responsibly use a Personal Educational Device (PED), such as a laptop, netbook, or tablet. After vigilant analysis of the use and application of school and student-owned devices, we will require that students bring their own device to use for the 2015-16 school year.
Please see our Parent/Student Technology Guide for BYOD to help you make the best decision.
