Covenant International

Since the beginning of Covenant in 1995, the international program has been an integral part of the school. We now regularly host 20 students from countries all over the world.
Covenant is on the west side of Indianapolis, which is conveniently located between the suburbs and downtown. Indianapolis offers a wide range of metropolitan cultural experiences. It is the home to the Indiana Pacers, the Indiana Museum of Art, the Indianapolis Colts, the Indianapolis 500 and the host of the 2012 Super Bowl.

About Our Program

Our Goal

We hope each student will leave Covenant confident and prepared to pursue education beyond high school. Students will leave with a higher level of English proficiency, a knowledge of formal writing, high levels of mathematics, science, and history. They will also gain the ability to engage in class, study, and prepare for exams. Covenant offers international students a unique experience. A few highlights of our program are listed below.

ENL Class

English as a New Language class is a time set for students to practice and gain more English language skills. This class is specifically designed to help international students as they transition into the American school system. ENL is taught by Mr. Dix, our Freshman English teacher, who has experience as an international student.

International students at Covenant are housed with families from our community. This is a rich experience for students as they are able to engage with an American family and are supported by host parents during their time at Covenant. Students often stay connected to their host families even after graduating from Covenant. Scroll down to read the story of William, a former international student.

The Application Process

Complete the Application

Set Up an Interview

After reviewing the application, our office will contact you to set up a Skype interview.

Acceptance Decision

After the interview, a decision will be made regarding admission to CCHS. There is not a specific order to those prospective students awaiting acceptance. The decision is made based on the student file, availability of host families and the fit of the student to the available host families. The acceptance decision will be emailed to the family or hosting agency within two weeks.

Review the Handbook

Review the International Student Handbook with your student and sign agreement.

Complete an I-20

Once the enrollment form is complete an I-20 will be issued and sent to the family by mail with a Letter of Acceptance. Tuition is due in full by June 10.

Make Travel Plans

Arrange and notify Covenant and your host family of your travel arrangements. All students must arrive and depart from the Indianapolis International Airport. You will need to arrive in Indianapolis on one of the designated move-in days. Check the International Program Timeline for these dates.

International Program Timeline

Once students arrive at school they will meet with our Academic Advisor to set their schedule. All students are required to take our ENL class for two years unless special circumstances are granted.

Homestay Program

One of the unique features of Covenant’s boarding is the Homestay program. Instead of an impersonal dorm setting, we believe international students living with American families constantly provides a much better learning environment and focused social and emotional support. Host families are chosen after background checks, reference checks, and personal interviews. Orientation and ongoing support is provided to host families as well.

Student Testimonial

“A year ago I had never been away from my family for so long and I had this question, without knowing anyone, could I live out of the country with someone else while facing a language and culture barrier ? Well, the answer is yes!

I learned many things from my host family and grew in maturity as our time went by. Now that I am away from both of my homes and heading to college, I miss all my friends and especially my host mom and dad. We still keep in contact, and every time I see my host family, I feel like we had never been away from each other. Even though time passes and we are away from each other, nothing has changed in our relationship. Living with a host family is truly what made my study abroad experience the life changing event that it was. I have enjoyed every moment with them and I think of our time together every day.”
