Introduction to Art

This introductory course is designed to build a strong foundation of knowledge, skills, and appreciation for art. Drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture are part of this studio course. Students will become familiar with art terminology, the principles and elements of art and design fundamentals. Students will experience creating formal, mimetic, expressive and functional art. An important part of the visual art program at Covenant is art criticism through critique. Students will experience creative problem solving with their peers as they evaluate their work in a group setting.

2D  Art

This course is designed for students who have successfully completed Introduction to Art and would like to have the opportunity to develop their skills further in 2D art. They will also be able to work more independently and focus on works that can showcase their favorite media. Students are encouraged to explore.

3D Art

This course is designed for students who have successfully completed Introduction to Art and would like to have the opportunity to develop their skills further in 3D art. Students in this class have created jewelry, stained glass, pottery, and many other  3D mediums. 3 dimensional design, figurative sculpture,  and subtractive plaster sculpture are also a part of this course. Students will also be able to work more independently and focus on works that can showcase their favorite media. Students are encouraged to explore.

AP Studio

This course is designed for highly motivated students who are seriously interested in the study of art; the program demands significant commitment including work outside of class. AP Studio is not based on a written exam: instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation to the college board, a panel of art professionals, near the end of the school year. This course teaches students a variety of concepts and approaches in Drawing, 2D Design, or 3D Design so that the student is able to demonstrate a range of abilities and versatility with problem-solving.
